Milk Tea For No-Spend Days

Wednesday, September 19, 2018

Whenever I crave milk tea but don't feel like spending, I'd make my own version of it, which is simply: black tea with milk.

But what about the tapioca pearls?? It's no fun without them!

True. But I can live without them. There's actually many things we can live without, but I'll focus first on how I make my own ~*~milk tea~*~. Milk tea in itself is already extra sweet, what with some stores having those options for lowering or adding sugar percentages. What more when tapioca pearls are added, which are basically mini balls of starch that adds even more carbs and calories into your drink.

That's why I can live with just simply black tea with milk. I adopted this habit one time over breakfast with my sister during our family trip around England. We had scones with jam and clotted cream, together with tea. She poured some milk over my tea, and since then it's been a total game-changer for me. I realized I don't always have to buy bubble tea or milk tea! I'll just add milk to black tea.

This is what I now make for myself while in the office to pick myself up. This is how I learned how to use the coffee machine in our dry pantry, not for the coffee, but for the milk portion option. This is why I hurry to go back to my desk after lunch so I can make myself a good cuppa.

All I need is:
  • A mug - I get this from our dry pantry in the office
  • Warm water - courtesy of our water dispenser
  • Black tea bag - I collect a bunch from hotels, restaurants, etc. but I'm planning to buy my own box soon, possibly when I run out
  • Milk - from our coffee machine

Prepare it like how you would prepare tea as usual, though leave enough space for the milk. I'd say that 1/4 of it should be milk for it to be balanced. But if you love milk and would love for it to have a milkier taste, then 1/2 would be good. I usually enjoy this with biscuits or bread (also from the office pantry).

But of course whenever I'm out with friends and I have spending money, I do buy bubble tea! I'm not depriving myself of the joys of bubble tea, but just that it's simply good to have no-spend days and know that I can choose to save and yet be resourceful with what I already have. :-) I think it's good to start early with learning how to manage expenses wisely.

What's your absolute favorite milk/bubble tea drink? Here in the Philippines they've gotten very creative and have come up with all sorts of different flavors and names for it.. but I honestly just prefer having it simple as much as possible.. but I guess that's just me! ♡♡

Yes indeed! Tapioca's good from time to time.. but just milk and tea in itself would be just fine too :)

    1. Haha! Milk tea is so good that we need to control ourselves. :") or I guess it also helps when we lessen the sugar level, do they have that kind of option too in Malaysia?

  5. Ahhh I'm craving for milk tea and then i saw this post. :( I love jasmine milk tea, winter melon, hokkaido or just plain milk tea, I'm not really the type to try everything on the menu If I love one flavor I'll order the same thing until I get tired of it. Lol and about tapioca pearls I prefer mine w/o it since I have braces on so I kinda avoided anything chewy. *sighs*

I haven't tried making my own milk tea yet I'm going to try it soon. Hehe Also, Nestea has milk tea flavor now!! you can buy it in packs its really convenient if you don't feel like going out of the house I bought one once and i was impressed it tasted good :""")

  6. I am a HUGE fan of milk tea! There are so many shops near my area that it's hard to keep up with them all XD. I like that you make your own milk tea - forget about spending a ton of money on them! I haven't tried making my own before but need to look into it. I usually order milk tea with 1/2 sugar and no tapioca pearls - keeping it simple! :).
