A Slice of Life - my favorite genre, and a vlog of my week

Sunday, May 10, 2020

I filmed moments and in-betweens, a minute or so of everyday in the last week. Or well, I at least tried my best to squeeze it all in for a minute everyday.

The above photo was taken from last year, after traditional church service. I wore it again just last week while working from home. Whenever I have the urge to wear something else other than my homewear, dresses are the way to go, as it's incredibly hot these days.

Anyhoo, another video, of Anna Jo in motion! I didn't think so much about this-- I would just bring out my camera when I felt like it. No pressure. I do realize though how nice it is to look back through random clips. I also learned how I probably don't appreciate some things enough until I find myself playing the replay button again. And again. You can watch through here and right here:

Slice of Life is my favorite genre in anime (next to Shoujo!). In a way, I've been influenced by it so much that if I were to describe my way of writing, it would be exactly just that. In the cinematic sense, I like it for its natural rawness and for taking its time in each scene. As for writing, I can liken it to a style that's more thoughtful and hopefully engaging in a way that it can be easy to relate to as an audience or reader.

I'll also recommend to you my favorite Slice of Life anime that I've watched from years back in another blog entry, some time soon! I'm excited by the thought of it.

All the while, my main thoughts throughout this little project were simply: how simple, how common, yet these are the moments of the here and now. It made me think: what a time to be alive.  I hope to be documenting more of life this year, no matter what the circumstance.

Sharing with you as well my other discoveries for this week:
  • Snoozeletter which is a newsletter that helps you sleep better.
  • I discovered the ilovecreatives site through Rachel Nguyen's Warde Slack group, and I've been spending time looking through different resources through there

What's your favorite moment in the last week?

Thank you for your time with me, dear reader! Let's take it slow, for today is a lovely Sunday.

    1. Awesome! I'm glad Happiness Lab podcast has made its way into your list :)
Slice of Life is just so nice, not always aesthetically pleasing and often slow, yet very thought provoking, just like how life can be. :") I tried Shounen for quite some time way back, but I'm really just a Shoujo girl at heart :)) thanks for your time on here, Ellie!

  2. OMG Anna this is so nice! Your video is so genuine and chill. It makes me appreciate the simple things in life. You remind me of my friend Nikola, whenever I feel sad or emotional I just go spend time with her and she makes me feel like home. It's the same feeling when I'm reading your blog or watching your vlog. You inspire me a lot. Looking forward to more posts like this 😊

    Much love💕

  5. I love your little vlog! I love getting some insight into other people's lives and routines - some of them may seem tedious or simple, especially at this time, but everyone's lives are different and that's what makes videos like this so fascinating, special, and unique! Some of the things you mentioned gave me a lil inspiration to change up my routine and make it more productive, so thanks for sharing this and I can't wait to see more! :)

  6. This is really great and will serve as a wonderful memory, especially in years to come. Reminds me of my friend filming one second a day for a year and then creating an amazing memory video, I was so excited to see it, especially the parts I experienced as well <3

    1. Years from now I'd be looking back and remembering how life in quarantine was like. I think it's a nice project to dabble in; it brings more self awareness in a way. I admire your friend for filming one second a day for a year! That's a lot of effort, but I think it's all well worth in the end. It would be so nice to watch it at the end of the year, definitely. <3 Thanks for your time with me on here, Satanja!

And unbelievable it is that hot in your area! Here in Bavaria it was quite warm during the weekend but now it is ice-cold and I even made a fire in our stove ...

  11. I really like that you have a whole stitching of your day in a video! This would be great if I wasn't in lockdown haha. It is interesting to see how people's day in their lives go. I like that you kept things simple, that you can still enjoy life without doing the most. I don't even remember my favorite moments anymore @__@. This lockdown got me screwed up aha. Thanks for sharing!

But then now since we're all staying home, my plans have changed. :)) I don't remember which day in the lockdown we're in here in Manila, but I hope to just remember what kind of things I did and how I felt during this strange time. 12. I've never heard of The Happiness Lab podcast but I will definitely start listening to it! :)

Here in Sweden, we don't lockdown or anything but we are asked to stay home as much as we can. It's been so long since I went out to be honest. So I've been spending most of my time playing Animal Crossing!! Hahaha.

    Hope you are safe there!
